Viking Ship Museum

The museum contains three complete Viking ships discovered in burial mounds: the Oseberg, Gokstad, and Tune vessels, each demonstrating advanced shipbuilding methods.

Swedish researchers initiated the museum's establishment in 1913, leading to an architectural competition won by Arnstein Arneberg for the building's design.

The exhibits include sledges, carts, wooden artifacts, and everyday items found in Viking burial sites, revealing details about Norse maritime traditions.

The institution remains closed for extensive renovations until 2027, during which visitors can explore Viking artifacts at the Historical Museum in central Oslo.

The Oseberg ship, excavated in 1904, represents the largest known ship burial worldwide and features intricate wood carvings with complex animal motifs.
