Troldhaugen, Musical residence museum in Bergen, Norway.

Troldhaugen is a music museum in Bergen built around a large villa, a composer's workshop cabin, an exhibition building, and a concert hall arranged near Lake Nordås. The buildings sit together on the shore, creating a complete setting where visitors can see both living spaces and performance areas.

The villa became the home of the composer and his wife starting in 1885, and they lived there until 1907. During these decades, he composed many of his important works while staying at this location.

The place is named after composer Edvard Grieg and reflects how he and his wife lived during their time here. You can walk through their home and see the spaces where daily life and creative work happened side by side.

The site sits beside the lake with clear pathways connecting all the buildings, making it easy to navigate between the different areas. Plan to spend time in each space, as they offer different perspectives on what happened here.

One of the grand pianos here is the original 1892 Steinway that was used during the time of residence, and it still gets played during music events at the location. This particular instrument bridges the past directly to today, as visitors can hear the same sounds that filled these rooms over a century ago.
