Njord, Oil and gas field in Norwegian Sea, Norway
Njord is an oil and gas field located in the Norwegian Sea at a water depth of 330 meters (1,080 feet). Production takes place through the Njord A semi-submersible platform, which handles both drilling and extraction operations.
The field was discovered by Norwegian energy company Equinor and began production in 1997. The Njord A platform was constructed and built by Aker Verdal.
The field represents Norway's commitment to energy production, contributing to the nation's position as the seventh-largest exporter of carbon dioxide emissions globally.
The field is located about 130 kilometers (81 miles) northwest of Kristiansund and 30 kilometers (19 miles) west of Draugen in the Norwegian Sea. Accommodation facilities are available on the Floatel Superior platform.
The field connects to adjacent reservoirs, containing an estimated 2.7 billion barrels of oil, making it one of Western Europe's substantial offshore petroleum resources.
