Regjeringskvartalet

Regjeringskvartalet is a modern government quarter with nine buildings spread across a large site in central Oslo. The ensemble was completely redesigned and features contemporary office spaces with thoughtful architectural planning throughout.

The area was originally a historic residential neighborhood that was demolished in the 1950s. The new government quarter was then built as a contemporary center for administrative functions on this central site.

Artists have created concrete murals across the buildings that shape the quarter's visual character. These artworks give the place a distinctive creative presence that visitors naturally notice while moving through the area.

The quarter is still partially under construction with some areas possibly not freely accessible. Visitors should be aware that ongoing work may limit access to certain sections during their visit.

The quarter uses seawater for temperature control of buildings through specialized concrete systems. This sustainable approach shows an innovative method for energy efficiency that shapes how the infrastructure functions, though it remains hidden from plain view.
