Marstein Lighthouse

Marstein Lighthouse is a coastal tower in Austevoll, Norway, built with square masonry walls in white and topped with a red roof, standing roughly 17 meters tall. It sits at the entrance to Korsfjord, marking the approach to Bergen and the surrounding fjord systems.

Built in 1877, this structure has guided maritime traffic through the fjord region since its completion. During World War II, it sustained damage from bombardment but was reconstructed in 1949 to resume its role.

The lighthouse holds significance as a navigation marker that shaped local maritime identity and regional connection to the sea. Its presence reflects the traditional role of coastal structures in guiding people and commerce through these waters.

The site operates as a hotel with rooms available for overnight stays and offers spaces for meetings or events since its 2010 renovation. Keep in mind that accessibility and facility availability can vary depending on weather and seasonal conditions.

The tower produces both white and red light signals, with the white beam operating at high intensity and visible from considerable distances at sea. This dual signaling system proved especially valuable for safe navigation through the complex fjord landscape.
