Trillemarka, Nature reserve in Sigdal, Norway
Trillemarka is a nature reserve in central Norway featuring extensive forests, wetlands, and rolling highlands spread across several municipalities. The landscape contains a mix of dense woodlands, open bogs, and varied terrain that together form a diverse natural ecosystem.
The reserve was established in 2008 following negotiations between forest owners and environmental groups to protect the region's natural woodlands. This decision secured one of the largest remaining natural forest areas in central eastern Norway.
This reserve means a lot to local communities as a place where people can experience and connect with the natural world. Visitors walking through the forests can see how the area remains a living space for both people and wildlife.
The area features marked hiking trails suited to different skill levels and abilities. Nearby towns provide lodging and visitor information to help plan a visit.
The reserve harbors habitats for more than 90 endangered species, making it a biological hotspot in the region. This concentration of rare plants and animals is why the area received special protection status.
