Balders Hage, Historic estate near Larviksfjorden, Norway.
Balders Hage is a grand residential property situated at the innermost part of Larviksfjorden, southwest of the Langestrand neighborhood in Larvik. The estate occupies an elevated position and features a substantial main building with associated grounds and landscape gardens.
Merchant and tobacco manufacturer Jakob Wilhelm Falch built the house as his family residence after acquiring the land from chamberlain Frederik Wilhelm Treschow in 1880. The property subsequently changed ownership and passed through different hands during the following decades.
The building reflects the architectural styles of late 19th-century Norwegian merchant homes and received a municipal architecture award in 1991. This recognition highlights its importance as an example of residential design from that era.
The estate underwent extensive renovation during the 1980s while carefully maintaining its historical character and structural integrity. Visitors should note that this is a private residence and access may be limited or restricted.
The estate was temporarily renamed Fritzøe Villa after Fritz Michael Treschow purchased it in 1905, though it was later renamed back to its original name. These name changes reflect the changing ownership history of the property.
