Hvalsmoen, Military heritage site in Ringerike, Norway
The Hvalsmoen complex spans over 55,000 square meters, containing more than 100 structures divided between the Upper Place and Lower Place sections.
Established in 1893 as a training ground for Norwegian Armed Forces engineering troops, Hvalsmoen operated until 2004 when military activities ceased.
The preserved military structures at Hvalsmoen include distinctive pyramid-shaped buildings, medical facilities, and training grounds that reflect Norwegian military architecture.
Located three kilometers northeast of Hønefoss, the former military camp now functions as a business area and transit reception center for asylum seekers.
The site maintains original military structures from World War I, including specialized magazines and barracks that showcase early 20th-century Norwegian military construction.
