Kopåsbatteriet, Artillery battery in Drøbak, Norway
Kopåsbatteriet is a coastal defense installation on Kopås hill, equipped with two 10.5 cm guns mounted in concrete casemates and connected to underground ammunition storage. The cannons remain in place within their original protective structures.
Built between 1898 and 1900, this installation served as a coastal defense position during the 1940 German invasion. Norwegian gunners engaged German warships during the early stages of the occupation.
The preserved military installation represents Norwegian coastal defense systems and serves as an educational site about World War II military operations.
The site is accessible on foot, with gun emplacements and underground rooms visible throughout the grounds. Visitors should prepare for uneven terrain and rock formations typical of hillside locations.
In 1952, four specialized guns were transferred to this location from another fortress, creating its final configuration before decommissioning in 1974. This repositioning reflected changing military priorities during the Cold War era.
