Knudaheio, Literary museum in Jæren, Norway.
Knudaheio is a house museum in Jæren that preserves the life and work of Norwegian author Arne Garborg through original furnishings, personal items, and first editions of his publications. The rooms remain arranged as they were during his occupation, showing the spaces where he spent his creative years.
Arne Garborg established this as his summer residence starting in 1899 and remained there through his final years until 1923. After his death, his widow Hulda gave the property to Time municipality, which opened it to visitors as a memorial to his legacy.
The rooms display furnishings and belongings that reflect how the author lived and worked during his time here. These objects show the domestic setting that shaped his literary output and creative thinking.
The museum welcomes visitors during the warmer months from May through September, with full daily hours during the main summer season from July through mid-August. It is best to check the specific opening times before planning your visit, as hours vary depending on the season.
The garden holds the graves of both Arne and Hulda Garborg, creating a quiet memorial within the landscape where they spent so many years together. This burial ground transforms the property into a deeply personal monument to their life together.
