Færder National Park, National park at the Oslo fjord entrance, Norway.

Færder National Park lies at the entrance to the Oslo fjord and is made up mostly of water with scattered islands and rocky coastlines. The landscape includes countless small islands, channels, and bays that create varied habitats for marine life.

The park was established in 2013 as Norway's first marine national park dedicated to protecting fjord ecosystems. The area has been a busy seafaring passage for centuries, which shaped its development and ongoing connection to the sea.

Lighthouses scattered throughout the park tell the story of seafaring traditions that continue today through fishing and boat traffic. You can see how local communities still depend on the sea for their way of life.

You can reach the park by ferry from several coastal departure points, with the best visiting season being spring through autumn. Weather on the water can change quickly, so bring appropriate clothing and check ferry schedules before you go.

Seals breed and gather here in large colonies, especially during migration seasons, making it a key habitat for these animals. Many visitors are surprised to learn that both harbor seals and gray seals make this marine area their home and can be spotted year-round.
