San Agustin Church, Religious building in Intramuros, Philippines
The San Agustin Church exhibits strong stone walls made from coral and adobe materials, featuring high-vaulted ceilings and stained glass windows throughout its interior.
Construction of the current structure began in 1586, replacing two previous wooden churches that burned down, and it survived numerous conflicts including World War II.
The church contains numerous burial sites of prominent figures, including Miguel López de Legazpi and Juan Luna, representing significant periods in Philippine history.
Visitors can access the church and its adjacent museum daily from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, with guided tours explaining the architectural features and historical elements.
The interior ceiling displays intricate trompe-l'œil paintings that create three-dimensional effects, making it the only church in the Philippines with this artistic technique.

The historical monuments of Manila showcase Spanish colonial architecture and the national history of the Philippines. The city includes 16th-century fortifications like Intramuros and Fort Santiago, Catholic churches such as the neo-Romanesque cathedral and the baroque church of Saint Augustine, urban parks like Rizal Park, and museums depicting local culture. The Chinese district of Binondo and Manila Bay with its seaside promenade complete this architectural heritage.
