Sanok Castle, Medieval castle in Sanok, Poland
The castle stands on a steep hill at 317 meters above sea level, overlooking the San River valley with fortified stone walls and Renaissance architecture.
King Casimir III the Great constructed a defensive structure on the site in the 1340s, replacing an earlier Russian wooden fortification from the 12th century.
The Historical Museum within the castle exhibits collections from the Lemko villages, including 200 icons representing the regional religious heritage of southeastern Poland.
The castle opens daily from April to November with regular admission at 28 PLN, offering guided tours in multiple languages through its Renaissance halls.
The wedding of King Władysław Jagiełło with Elisabeth of Pilica took place in this castle on May 2, 1417, marking its significance in Polish royal history.
