The Historical Museum occupies a medieval castle on a hill, featuring extensive collections of religious art, historical artifacts, and contemporary works spanning several centuries.
Founded in 1934 as the Museum of Sanok Land, this institution operates from a castle that King Casimir the Great transformed into a stone fortress in 1341.
The museum houses Poland's largest collection of Orthodox and Greek Catholic religious art, including 1,200 icons and liturgical objects from southeastern Poland and Ukraine.
Visitors can explore the museum Monday mornings, full days Tuesday through Wednesday, and extended hours Thursday through Sunday during the April to October season.
The museum contains the world's largest collection of works by Zdzisław Beksiński, with 600 pieces including paintings, drawings, and photographs by the noted Polish artist.
