Gródek, Białystok County

Gródek sits near the Belarus border in northeastern Poland, functioning as the administrative center for the surrounding municipality, 33 kilometers from Białystok.

The Chodkiewicz family established the settlement in the 15th century, constructing a castle and founding an Orthodox monastery that later relocated to Supraśl in 1498.

Current residents maintain connections to both Polish and Belarusian cultures due to the village's location, with regular transport services linking to the regional capital Białystok.

Five major synagogues operated simultaneously in this small village before World War II, reflecting the significant Jewish presence that comprised 78 percent of the population in 1897.
