Built during the first century, the bridge formed a vital connection on the Roman road network linking multiple locations including Portela do Homem and Estrimo.
The local population refers to it as Ponte dos Mouros, reflecting the historical presence of Moorish communities in the Iberian Peninsula during medieval times.
The bridge stands 110 meters east of the municipal road, spanning the River Laboreiro within the Nature Park of Peneda do Gerês.
The structure incorporates prismatic starling formations upstream between its arches and rectangular buttresses downstream for enhanced support.
