Povoado fortificado e Santuário de Endovélico

The Sanctuary of Endovélico stands at the summit of São Miguel da Mota hill, featuring ancient Roman architectural remains and marble bases for sculptural monuments.

Built in the 1st century CE, this fortified settlement replaced an earlier shrine known as Rocha da Mina and later transformed into a Christian chapel in the 5th century.

Over eighty Latin inscriptions discovered at the site reveal the worship practices of different social classes during the Roman period in ancient Hispania.

Visitors can access the archaeological site by road and follow marked trails to explore the remains of the sanctuary and its surrounding fortified settlement.

The sanctuary contains numerous votive altars and funerary stones dedicated to Endovélico, a pre-Roman deity associated with healing and prophecy.
