Cârța Monastery, Cistercian monastery in Țara Făgărașului, Romania.

The monastery features a Gothic church with ribbed vaulting, polygonal apse, and remaining sections of the original cloister near the Olt River.

Founded between 1202 and 1206 by King Andrew II of Hungary, the monastery operated until its dissolution in 1474 by King Matthias I.

The monastery introduced Gothic architectural elements and Burgundy grape varieties to medieval Transylvania through its Cistercian monastic traditions.

The monastery now functions as a Lutheran church for the local Saxon community, situated between the towns of Sibiu and Făgăraș.

This monastery represents the easternmost location of all medieval Cistercian abbeys in Europe, except for those in Istanbul.
