Ruinele cetății Șinteu, Medieval castle ruins on a 484-meter hilltop in Peștiș, Romania
The stone fortress stands on a steep rock formation, with remaining walls and structures spread across multiple defensive positions of the former military complex.
Built in 1242 following the Mongol invasion, the castle served as a noble center for the Bistra region until Habsburg imperial troops destroyed it in 1711.
The castle name Sólyomkő translates to Falcon Stone, referring to the high rock formation that only falcons could access in medieval times.
The ruins are located 4.5 kilometers northwest of Peștiș village center, with access requiring a moderate hike through forested terrain.
The castle domain controlled 47 villages by 1406, extending its influence from Bihor County to the medieval town of Huedin.
