Valea Viilor fortified church

The church features strong defensive walls reaching seven meters in height, with strategically placed loopholes and a central tower rising above the structure.

Built in the 14th century over a Roman basilica, the church received fortifications in the early 16th century to protect the local Saxon community.

The interior contains religious artifacts from the 16th and 17th centuries, including carved wooden stalls from 1526 and an altar dating to 1779.

Located 69 kilometers from Sibiu and 15 kilometers from Mediaș, the church opens for religious services every third Sunday of the month.

The church stands at the center of Valea Viilor, formerly known as Wurmloch, where only three Saxon inhabitants remain to maintain this heritage structure.
