Săpânța-Peri Monastery

Săpânța-Peri is an Orthodox monastery in Maramureș featuring a wooden church that rises along the Tisza River's banks. The structure blends traditional regional architecture with a distinctive pointed spire design.

The original monastery was founded in 1391 and served as a religious center for the region for several centuries. The modern complex rebuilt in the early 2000s carries forward this legacy on the same site.

The monastery takes its name from a spring that once flowed nearby and attracted local travelers to the area. This connection between the sacred place and the landscape remains visible in how the community relates to it today.

The monastery is accessible from the roadside, allowing visitors to view the church from various angles around the grounds. Plan to visit during warmer months, as the riverside location can be exposed to the elements.
