Parcul „Mihai Eminescu” din Botoșani, Public park in Botoșani, Romania
Mihai Eminescu Park is a public garden in Botoșani featuring a central lake surrounded by trees, walking paths, and expanses of grass throughout its grounds. The space includes multiple zones for strolling and resting within the city center.
The garden was founded in 1869 as Vârnav Public Garden and purchased by city officials in 1873 from nobleman Nicu Vârnav for 47,000 new lei. This acquisition transformed it into a public space for local residents.
The park is named after celebrated Romanian poet Mihai Eminescu and holds a bronze bust of the writer created by sculptor Ion Georgescu in 1932. The statue positioned near the lake serves as a tribute to one of Romania's most important literary figures.
The park is free to enter and provides walking routes, sports areas, and an outdoor summer theater for various activities. Different sections are easily accessible on foot and offer spaces for relaxing time outdoors.
German traveler Rudolf Bergner from Leipzig visited the park in 1887 and noted local women taking their daily walks there. His observations provide a glimpse into the leisure habits and everyday life of that era.
