Winter Palace, Imperial palace and museum in Dvortsovy District, St. Petersburg, Russia.

The Winter Palace displays green and white facades with 1084 rooms, 1476 windows, and 117 staircases across its massive Baroque structure.

Constructed between 1754 and 1762 under Empress Elizabeth I, the palace served as the primary residence for Russian monarchs until 1904.

The palace contains extensive collections of European art, archaeological artifacts, and decorative items from Asia, England, and France within its grand halls.

Visitors can access the palace through the main entrance at Palace Square, with tickets available for both general admission and specialized guided tours.

The 1837 fire required a complete reconstruction of the interior spaces, leading to new designs by architects Stasov, Briullov, and Staubert.

This collection includes medieval castles, early modern fortifications, barracks, command posts, and contemporary military installations. Each structure documents the military strategies, technological advances, and historical events of its era. The sites range from European fortress systems such as Vauban fortifications in France to Asian defensive walls and American military bases from various periods. Many of these structures played critical roles in wars and conflicts and are now accessible as monuments or museums. They provide insights into military architecture, engineering practices, and the strategic importance of their locations.
