Chudovo

Chudovo is a town in Novgorod Oblast in northwestern Russia, situated along the Kerest River, a tributary of the Volkhov. The settlement grew as a railway junction connecting Moscow and Saint Petersburg, positioned at a low elevation near water transport routes.

The town was first recorded in 1539 and served as a postal station along transportation routes. The construction of the Moscow-Saint Petersburg Railway in 1851 transformed it into a major settlement and crucial junction point.

The Nekrasov Museum occupies the summer home where the Russian writer stayed and worked on his literary creations. The house offers visitors a glimpse into how a prominent author of that era lived and spent his creative time.

The M10 Highway and railway connections make the town easily accessible from Moscow and Saint Petersburg. Visitors can reach the town conveniently by train or car and use it as a stopover while traveling between the two major cities.

The town became known for its match and plywood factories that contributed to its industrial growth through the 1900s. Few visitors realize that the settlement once housed a beverage production facility before that operation eventually ceased.
