The New Jerusalem Monastery contains white stone buildings, five golden domes, a bell tower reaching 58 meters, and fortified walls spanning 690 meters.
Patriarch Nikon established the monastery in 1656, modeling it after the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem with architectural elements from Russian traditions.
The monastery museum displays ecclesiastical artifacts, ancient manuscripts, religious paintings, and traditional Russian Orthodox religious objects from the 17th through 19th centuries.
The monastery opens daily from 8 AM to 8 PM, offering guided tours in Russian and English, with a separate schedule for religious services.
The monastery incorporates geographical features named after Biblical locations, including the Istra River representing the Jordan and hills symbolizing Mount Tabor.
