The monastery complex stands at the intersection of the Pechenga River and Barents Sea, featuring traditional Russian Orthodox architectural elements and religious structures.
Founded in 1533 by Saint Tryphon from Novgorod, the monastery experienced multiple destructions, including a Swedish raid in 1589 that resulted in numerous casualties.
The monastery maintains Russian Orthodox religious practices, with daily services and ceremonies following traditional liturgical customs established over five centuries.
The monastery welcomes visitors throughout the year, with guided tours available in Russian, and includes accommodation facilities for religious pilgrims.
The northernmost monastery in the world continues its reconstruction efforts since 2008, incorporating traditional log building techniques in its new structures.
