Founded in 1802, the theater underwent several reconstructions due to fires before receiving its current name in honor of actor Ivan Slonov in 1991.
The theater presents a mix of classical Russian plays and international productions, maintaining a permanent company of professional actors and directors.
Performances occur regularly throughout the week, with matinee shows on weekends and evening performances starting at 7 PM during the main season.
During World War II, the theater remained active and organized performances for soldiers, contributing to maintaining cultural life during wartime.
