Le Corbusier received the commission in 1928 through an international competition for the Central Union of Consumer Cooperatives headquarters, marking his first project in Soviet Russia.
The building represents a fusion of Western European architectural principles with Soviet constructivist ideals, demonstrating the exchange of design concepts in the 1920s.
The structure contains multiple office spaces connected by wide ramps instead of traditional staircases, facilitating movement between the different administrative departments.
The building introduced the first air conditioning system in Moscow, incorporating special glass panels that could regulate internal temperature through mechanical controls.
