Tsentrosoyuz building, Modernist office building in Krasnoselsky District, Russia
The Tsentrosoyuz building is a modernist office building in Krasnoselsky District, Russia, marked by large glazed sections and exposed concrete supports. The facade extends horizontally with bands of windows directing daylight into interior areas.
An international competition in 1928 opened the way for this building to be designed as headquarters for a consumer cooperative. Le Corbusier collaborated with local experts to complete construction by the early 1930s.
The name derives from the cooperative organization that once coordinated consumer affairs here, with offices distributed across multiple levels. Work areas share a central corridor connecting open sections on either side.
Wide ramps connect floors and provide gentle transitions between different sections. Glass facades allow daylight to enter throughout the day, making orientation inside easier.
This building introduced a mechanical cooling system to Moscow designed specifically for indoor climate control. Parts of the technical installation remain visible inside today.
