Bakla

Bakla is an archaeological site with stone fortifications built on several hilltops in the Bakhchysarai region. The remains include defensive walls, residential buildings, and underground chambers that come from different periods of occupation.

Settlement began in the 6th century and continued through medieval times, with the location holding strategic importance for controlling the peninsula. Different peoples layered their structures across the centuries.

Multiple groups of people settled here over the centuries, leaving behind their own building styles and ways of living side by side. Visitors can observe how construction methods and domestic life evolved across different periods.

Marked paths connect the hilltops and allow visitors to explore the different areas on their own. It is best to wear sturdy footwear, as the terrain is hilly and uneven in places.

The underground storage chambers were equipped with stone steps and channels that captured rainwater for preserving food supplies. This sophisticated water management reveals that residents had to deal with periods of drought.
