Ярославль дәүләт курчак театры
The Yaroslavl State Puppet Theater occupies a purpose-built wing of the Yaroslavl Children's Theater Complex at 23 Svobody Street on Ploshchad Yunosti, sharing the building with the Theater for Young Spectators. Its auditorium stages hand-puppet shows drawn from Russian folklore and classical fairy tales, with a repertoire that has included about 300 productions over eight decades.
The Yaroslavl Puppet Theater traces its start to 1 March 1927, when Maria Nikolaevna Slobodskaya staged "The Girl and the Bear" and a Petrushka interlude in a house on Flotskaya Street; the first public performance followed on 8 March 1928, now counted as its birthday. In 1932 the "Friend of Children" society took it over, and a year later it received a room in the Nekrasov Library on Svobody Street. It moved to Komitetskaya Street in 1949 and in 1984 into the building of the Yaroslavl Youth Theater on Yunosti Square.
Tickets can be purchased at the box office or online and can be printed or downloaded to your phone. Visitors can choose from morning, afternoon, and evening performances, with most weekend shows scheduled for the daytime.
Over 80 years the theater staged about 300 productions and gave nearly 30,000 performances using more than 3,000 puppets. It has toured and taken part in festivals in Poland, Romania, Germany, Austria, the Netherlands, Norway, Finland, the UK, the USA, India, Israel and Cyprus. Since 1966 it has been a member of UNIMA, the international puppeteers' organization.
