Royal Palace of Mari

The palace extends across 2.5 hectares and contains more than 260 rooms connected through corridors and passages across different sections of the compound.

Built around 1800 BCE, this palace served as the residence for rulers of Mari until its destruction by Babylonian forces in the 18th century BCE.

The palace archive contains over 20,000 cuneiform tablets that detail economic, political, and social aspects of life during the Babylonian period.

The site features preserved wall frescoes and structural elements protected by modern roofing, allowing visitors to examine ancient Mesopotamian architecture.

The palace includes separate zones for private residence, public administration, and religious ceremonies, reflecting complex social organization of ancient Mari.
