The Temple of Baalshamin was a first century AD temple with a unique blend of ancient Near Eastern and Greco-Roman architecture.
It was built in the 2nd century AD and was dedicated to the Canaanite sky deity Baalshamin.
The temple was an important cultural center for the ancient city of Palmyra.
Unfortunately, the temple was destroyed by the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant in 2015.
Despite its destruction, the Temple of Baalshamin remains a symbol of the rich cultural heritage of Syria.
