Varadis Palace is a two-story residence in Wat Sommanat that blends European architectural features with traditional Thai design. The spacious rooms display ornate details and house a collection of around 7000 books plus military artifacts.
The building was designed in 1911 by German architect Karl Döhring for Prince Tisavarakumarn. This prince later took the title Damrong Rajanubhab and became known for establishing Thailand's civil service system.
The palace displays personal belongings and documents that reveal how Prince Damrong shaped his work and daily life. Visitors can observe how these rooms reflect his influence on education and government systems.
