New Southern Bus Terminal, Bus terminal in Taling Chan District, Thailand
The New Southern Bus Terminal is a major bus station in Bangkok with a four-story building containing 98 platforms for regional and long-distance routes. The ground floor holds platforms 1-24, ticket counters, and shops, while upper floors provide additional boarding areas and passenger facilities.
The station opened in 1960 on Charansanitwong Road, relocated to Borommaratchachonnani Road in 1989, and moved to its present location in 1994. Each move allowed the facility to expand and better serve growing numbers of travelers.
The first floor provides dedicated spaces for Buddhist monks and a prayer room for Muslim passengers traveling on southern routes. These facilities reflect how the terminal serves people of different faiths who use its services.
Platforms 1-24 are on the ground floor with ticket counters and shopping options, while passengers can use escalators or elevators to reach higher-numbered platforms. Arriving early helps you locate your departure point and confirm your bus.
The facility operates like an airport with restricted boarding zones accessible only to passengers holding valid tickets for their journeys. This security approach keeps operations orderly and prevents confusion during the boarding process.
