Wat Matchimawat

Wat Matchimawat is a temple in Mak Khaeng with white walls, tiered roofs, and detailed ornamentation throughout its structures in traditional Thai style. The grounds contain several buildings arranged around the main prayer hall where visitors walk and explore.

Prince Prachaksinlapakhom founded the temple, originally called Wat Non Mak Khaeng, during Udon Thani city's early development in the early 20th century. Its establishment reflected the region's growth during that foundational period.

Local devotees visit to pay respects to the sacred Buddha statue housed here, which holds spiritual importance across the province. The daily presence of worshippers reflects the deep connection between this temple and the community's religious life.

The temple welcomes visitors during its regular hours and requires removing shoes before entering buildings. Dressing modestly to cover shoulders and knees shows respect for this sacred space.

The temple preserves an unusual arrangement where a larger plaster statue encases and protects the original small stone figure within. This layered protection method is a distinctive approach to safeguarding a sacred image and makes the site particularly memorable for visitors.
