Tung Kula Rong Hai

Tung Kula Rong Hai is an agricultural plateau in Roi Et Province that spreads across approximately 3,200 square kilometers and is marked by expansive rice fields. The area sits on an elevated plain with distinct seasonal shifts between dry periods and monsoon rains.

The name comes from the Kula people who migrated from Myanmar through this region and faced extreme conditions with limited water access. The land was later transformed through agricultural innovations and irrigation technologies.

The region is known as the birthplace of the famous fragrant rice variety, which farmers grow using inherited techniques and sell under protected geographical designation. The cultivation tradition shapes daily life in the communities here.

The best time to visit is between November and April when the rice fields are dry and weather is pleasant. From May to October, heavy rains can affect road conditions, so travel plans should be adjusted accordingly.

The area was once plagued by soil salinity that made farming nearly impossible and left the landscape barren. Modern soil preparation and intelligent irrigation systems transformed it into one of the country's primary rice-growing regions.
