M.R. Kukrit's Heritage Home, Heritage museum and traditional garden in Sathorn district, Bangkok, Thailand
M.R. Kukrit's Heritage Home is a residential museum in Bangkok's Sathorn district made up of five teak houses linked by wooden walkways. The rooms are furnished with original pieces, period furniture, and decorative objects that were part of the household during its owner's lifetime.
The teak structures were gathered from rural parts of Thailand during the 20th century and reassembled on this plot in Bangkok. Each building was selected and relocated by the owner himself, a well-known figure in Thai politics and literature.
The reception hall contains a stage used for classical Khon dance, with ornate masks and costumes stored nearby. Ancient Buddhist scripture cabinets line the surrounding shelves, showing how traditional performing arts and religious objects coexisted in a private home.
The site sits close to South Sathorn Road and is easy to reach on foot from nearby transport links. Comfortable shoes are a good idea, as the wooden floors inside the connected houses can be uneven in places.
The garden features Thai bonsai trees called mai dat, shaped using techniques passed down over generations and rarely seen outside private homes. Two decorative vases on the grounds came from abroad, pointing to the owner's connections beyond Thailand.
