Fifth Thai–Lao Friendship Bridge, International bridge at Laos-Thailand border.
The Fifth Thai-Lao Friendship Bridge is a road crossing over the Mekong between Thailand and Laos. The roadway spans 13 meters wide and links Bueng Kan Province in Thailand with Pakxan in Laos.
Construction began in December 2021 as the fifth connection across the Mekong between the two countries. This new crossing strengthens infrastructure links in a region that was previously less connected.
The bridge connects communities on both sides of the Mekong, enabling daily encounters between Thai and Laotian people. Locals use this crossing for family visits, trade, and everyday business between the two countries.
Crossing requires valid travel documents and vehicle papers for both countries. Vehicles must stop at checkpoints on each side to complete required formalities.
The bridge was built as part of a development cooperation project designed to boost economic integration in the region. This infrastructure project demonstrates growing collaboration between the two nations in creating new transportation links.
