Wat Yom

Wat Yom, Buddhist temple in Bang Pa-in district, Ayuttaya province, Thailand

Wat Yom is a temple in Wat Yom area in Bang Pa-in district, Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya province, featuring simple but well-maintained structures. The main building holds images and statues for worship, with walls decorated in traditional designs, while additional buildings include prayer halls, a bell tower, and wooden monk cells.

The temple was founded around 1852 as a place for the local community to gather and practice their faith. In 1877, it received official recognition with the status of Vihara, establishing its legitimacy as a center for worship and religious activities.

The temple bears the name of its location and serves as a gathering place for religious ceremonies and community events throughout the year. Colorful decorations during festivals and the presence of resident monks create a focal point for spiritual life in the area.

The best time to visit is during daylight hours when monks are active and the grounds are open to visitors. Respectful behavior and quiet conduct are appreciated, as this is a spiritual space dedicated to reflection and prayer.

The grounds span a considerable area near the Chao Phraya River and waterways, creating a green and tranquil setting surrounded by nature. Nine teak wood monk cells and a Dharma school building established in 1925 reflect the connection between spiritual practice and education in this community.
