Odesa International Airport, International airport in Odesa, Ukraine
Odesa International Airport is an airport facility located in Odesa, Ukraine, serving both commercial and international air traffic. The complex includes terminal buildings and operational infrastructure designed to accommodate regular passenger flights.
The airport began operations in 1961 and served passengers continuously for over six decades. All flights stopped in February 2022 following the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
A sculpture competition in 2019 resulted in the selection of Stepan Ryabchenko's 'Sphere' design to represent the airport's connection with the city.
The site is accessible by road and located several kilometers from the city center. Visitors should be aware that air traffic is currently suspended and the terminal is not operating for regular flights.
During expansion work in 2021, construction workers discovered remains believed to date from the Holodomor period. The discovery reveals historical layers beneath the airport grounds that connect to Ukraine's past.
