Oleksandriia

Oleksandriya sits in the northeastern part of Kirovohrad Oblast in central Ukraine, spreading across residential blocks, industrial sites and green spaces at 107 meters above sea level (350 feet). Along the main streets you find concrete apartment blocks next to smaller houses with gardens, while the central Soborna Square forms the commercial and administrative heart.

The original settlement called Usivka emerged in 1746 as a fortified outpost against Crimean Tatar raids along the military frontier of the Russian Empire. During the 19th century the place grew through trade in agricultural goods and the opening of brown coal deposits nearby.

The Museum of Local Lore contains 17,000 exhibits representing regional history, natural specimens, and ethnographic collections from the surrounding territory.

The central square serves as an orientation point from which all main areas can be reached on foot, while sidewalks in residential districts are often uneven and lined with trees. Visiting during spring or summer months offers more comfortable conditions for exploring, as streets are busier and green spaces more accessible.

The local history museum holds over 17,000 objects, including natural history specimens, ethnographic collections and documents from the region spread across several halls. Former brown coal mines such as the Morozovsky and Konstantinovsky quarries now stand as industrial landscapes documenting the mining heritage of the area.
