Gorgany, Mountain range in Western Ukraine
Gorgany is a mountain range in the Outer Eastern Carpathians with peaks reaching 1,836 meters at its highest point and featuring notable sandstone formations. The territory spans a large area with varied landscapes and geological features.
The western sections have maintained connections to mountain communities since ancient times, particularly shaped by the Boyko people. This settlement history has defined the region throughout the ages.
The Bojko people have shaped life in these mountains for centuries with their own customs and ways of living. Today, their influence remains visible in the villages and in how locals connect with the land around them.
Access to the mountains is easiest through the towns of Vorokhta and Yaremche, where you will find places to stay and information about walking trails. These towns serve as natural starting points for exploring the area.
A nature reserve protects 5,344 hectares (13,200 acres) of Stone pine forest with 17 distinct forest types here. This protected woodland area is one of the region's most ecologically important zones.
