Vilshana, Settlement in Zvenyhorodka Raion, Cherkasy Oblast, Ukraine
Located at 231 meters above sea level, Vilshana stretches across central Ukraine with residential areas connected by a network of local roads.
The settlement dates back to 1598 when it was first documented as Olshana, serving as an administrative center for the Vilshana Raion from 1923 to 1931.
During the period from 1932 to 1933, Vilshana experienced significant population losses due to the Holodomor, with 82 residents perishing in the famine.
Following administrative reforms in July 2020, Vilshana transferred from Horodyshche Raion to Zvenyhorodka Raion, modifying local governance structures and services.
Archaeological excavations near Vilshana revealed evidence of continuous human settlement spanning more than 5,000 years, including early Slavic communities.
