Black Forest, Forest in Kirovohrad region, Ukraine.
The Black Forest is a woodland area in the Kirovohrad region situated between two tributaries of the Dnieper River. The terrain features thick vegetation and a sphagnum bog at Chornoliske beam, while a significant lake shapes the landscape.
Archaeological excavations revealed Bronze Age burial mounds from the III-II century in the area. These remains belonged to Slavic tribes associated with the Chornolis culture, showing early settlement patterns in the region.
Local stories and folklore have long surrounded this forest, reflecting how communities connect mysterious natural features to their own history. The area remains embedded in regional memory through these narratives passed down over time.
Several hiking paths traverse the forest, allowing visitors to explore different sections and the surrounding terrain. The landscape includes wet and boggy areas, particularly in lower-lying sections, so appropriate footwear is recommended.
The lake maintains constant water levels throughout the year without freezing in winter despite the harsh climate. Surprisingly, it supports only one fish species—earthen carp—making it ecologically unusual.
