Dubno Castle

Dubno Castle is a fortress with Renaissance Revival architecture standing on a high bank above the Ikva River. It contains two main palaces, defensive walls, and towers that form its outer structure and interior layout.

A prince founded the fortress in 1492 with wooden buildings and earthen walls, which later generations rebuilt in stone. This transition from timber to stone construction reflects the growing importance and permanence of the settlement.

The castle served as a residence for different noble families across centuries, each leaving their mark on its architecture and interior design. Visitors can see how these families displayed their wealth through elaborate palace structures and ornamental details.

The fortress is reachable by regular bus and train connections from Kyiv and Rivne, and offers daily guided tours in multiple languages. Visitors should plan time to explore the buildings and walls thoroughly, especially if interested in viewing the underground areas.

Beneath the fortress runs an extensive network of underground vaults and passages that provided shelter during numerous sieges over five centuries. These hidden spaces tell the story of the strategic battles that took place at this location.
