Reni, Port city in Odesa Oblast, Ukraine
Reni is a port city situated on the left bank of the Danube River where Ukraine, Romania, and Moldova meet. The city sits along this major waterway and serves as a key cargo hub for river transport.
The settlement was first mentioned in 1548 when it served as a port of the Moldavian Principality under rulers like Ilias II Rares. Over centuries, the city changed hands and evolved as a river port under different powers.
The population here reflects a mix of Ukrainians, Moldovans, Russians, Bulgarians, and other groups, visible in the buildings and daily life around town. This variety grew naturally from the city's location where three countries meet.
Visitors can observe port activity throughout the year and watch river traffic along the Danube. The main area of interest is the waterfront, where ships, cranes, and cargo facilities are concentrated.
The city is farther from its regional capital Odesa than any other city in the oblast. Despite this remote location along the Danube, it has become an important transportation hub.
