Brodsky Synagogue, Orthodox synagogue in Pecherskyi District, Ukraine

Brodsky Synagogue is a place of worship in the Pecherskyi District featuring Moorish Revival architectural details throughout. Its facade is divided into three sections with a raised central portion flanked by lower side wings, creating a balanced composition.

Built from 1897 to 1898 with funding from sugar magnate Lazar Brodsky, the structure was designed by architect Georg Schleifer. It was created to serve the expanding Jewish community in Kyiv at that time.

The synagogue serves as a center for Jewish religious observance and community life in Kyiv, where people gather for prayer and learning. The space reflects the traditions and practices that have sustained this community for generations.

The building is centrally located in Kyiv and accessible by various routes through the city. Visitors should check ahead regarding access conditions and any guidelines for respectful entry.

During the 2022 Russian invasion, the building was repurposed as a distribution center for humanitarian aid and a shelter for Ukrainian refugees. This demonstrates how religious spaces took on unexpected roles in times of crisis.
