Yampil, city in Vinnytsia Oblast of Ukraine
Yampil is a small city situated along the Dniester River in central Ukraine, near the border with Moldova. The town occupies a narrow strip of land beside the river and consists of simple buildings, mostly older wooden or brick houses with small gardens surrounding them.
The town was founded in the early 1600s when it was under Polish rule and served as an important trading center. By the late 1700s, it came under Russian control, which fundamentally changed its role and administration.
The name Yampil comes from Ukrainian words meaning 'field' and 'hill', reflecting the agricultural roots that still define the place. Visitors can see this connection in the gardens and fields that surround the town, where farming remains central to daily life and local identity.
