Volnovakha, Railway city in Donetsk Oblast, Ukraine.
Volnovakha is a town in eastern Ukraine that sits at a junction where several rail lines meet and connect different parts of the region. The settlement spreads across flat terrain surrounded by open fields and low hills.
The settlement began in 1881 as a rail station and gradually grew into a community that gained town status in 1938. During World War II the place suffered heavy damage and was later rebuilt.
The local history museum, established in the 1970s, contains collections of regional artifacts representing the heritage of Ukrainian, Russian, and Greek communities.
The town is reachable by regional trains and bus routes, with most travelers using the rail station as a starting point. Accommodation options are limited, so planning ahead is advisable for extended stays.
Following the Russian invasion in 2022, the place was awarded the title of Hero City by Ukrainian authorities to honor the resistance of its residents. The designation recognizes the community's role during the fighting in the region.
